Thank you for your interest in River Mill Woods. We are a family owned and operated business that began part time in 1988. Daryl was an industrial arts school teacher and coach for 24 1/2 years but was always in the shop building anything from jewelry boxes to book cases. Pat started picture framing in 1993 as a way to help with the family income and worked out of a garage which was converted into a framing studio.

In 2000 we had the opportunity to buy Daryl’s boyhood home which is located 2 miles south of Marion, Kansas. With this development came the decision of not only leaving the wonderful community of Lewis, Kansas (where we were living, teaching, and coaching the past 15 years) but to change occupations entirely and go into full-time self-employment.

Our company name was derived from the Ehrlich/Excelsior grist mill (pictured left) which still stands and is owned by our extended family. Prior to being re-routed in the 1920’s, the mill was powered by the Cottonwood River - hence our name - River Mill Woods.
